An hour before she passed away on Tuesday evening, BJPleader and former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had asked HarishSalve, the lawyer who represented India at the International Court of Justice(ICJ) in the case pertaining to Kulbhushan Jadhav, to visit her on Wednesday at6pm to collect his fee - Re 1. Sushma Swaraj, 67, passed away on Tuesday nightafter suffering cardiac arrest. The senior BJP leader was brought to the AllIndia Institute of Medical Sciences around 9:30pm and was straight away takento the emergency ward. Doctors tried to revive her for about an hour but shedied at 10:50pm, a senior doctor at AIIMS said."I spoke to her at 8:50 pm.It was a very emotional conversation. She said you have to come and meet me. Ihave to give you your one rupee for the case which you won. I said of course Ihave to come collect that precious fee. She said come tomorrow at 6o'clock," Salve told Times Now.
According to the report, Harish Salve charged only a rupeeto defend the case against Pakistan involving Kulbhushan Jadhav in the ICJ. Hesaid Sushma Swaraj called him at night and insisted him to meet her onWednesday to collect the "precious fee".Last month, fighting theKulbhushan Jadhav case in the ICJ's, India's victory had gladdened many hearts.TheInternational Court of Justice had ordered Pakistan to grant consular access toKulbhushan Jadhav without further delay and undertake an "effective reviewand reconsideration" of the conviction and sentence awarded to him.
Pakistan finally had to relent and announce consular accessto Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav.Sushma Swaraj had described the ICJ'sverdict as a great victory for India.
Kulbhushan Jadhav, a 49-year-old retired Indian Navyofficer, was held captive by the Pakistani military court on charges of"espionage and terrorism".
